Find out all about the types of fruity white wine and their flavour characteristics

Many types of white wines are produced in Spain, and the vast majority have a very marked aromatic character, but some wines stand out for their fruity aromas, which transport us to the fruit itself when we smell or taste them, as is the case of white wines from Segura Viudas. Fruity aromas and flavors are mainly due to grape varieties and winemaking methods, as the term fruity usually comes from primary aromas, and sometimes from secondary or fermentation aromas.

In general, we talk about young and smooth wines, with a touch of sweetness, served cold, with a low alcohol content (between 11 and 13 degrees), and with a pale or yellowish color.

Type of fruity white wine

Entering a more subjective territory, and more so in a land like Spain, where we have many varieties of white wine, the fruity character of a wine is always subject to opinion, it is not an approved variety of wine such as reds, whites, rosés or sparkling.

In any case, we make two recommendations for all those who like this type of wine:

  • Segura Viudas Xarel·lo:  Tasty and aromatic, Xarel·lo has become in recent years one of the fashionable varieties that best represents the essence of the Penedés wine region. Pale straw yellow colour, bright and attractive. Intense aroma of ripe fruit where pineapple, peach and apple stand out. It presents floral notes and a pleasant aniseed background. It has a sweet and tasty entrance. It has a long acidity that gives it freshness and balance. Persistent on the palate and has a fruity aftertaste of peach and pineapple.
  • Segura Viudas Creu de Lavit: Pale and bright straw yellow. Complex and elegant aroma dominated by ripe white fruit (melon, pear) and tropical (pineapple) with a floral background and flower honey (genista). Woody notes (vanilla, coconut) provided by the new barrel during fermentation and aging also appear, highly integrated with the fruit. On the palate it has a soft, elegant and very fine entry with a long acidity that gives it freshness. Fresh fruit (pineapple) also appears well integrated with the toasted notes provided by the barrel. It has a fresh, tasty and round finish.
