How Many Calories are there in red wine?

All foods and beverages contain nutrients and wine, as a beverage, does too. Therefore, it implies a caloric contribution. Therefore, to know how its consumption affects the caloric balance, we will tell you what the calories are in red wine.

Wine is part of the mediterrameah diet

The World Health Organization (WHO) defends the many health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet, which is considered one of the healthiest in the world. The abundance of plant foods, the use of olive oil, the moderate consumption of fish and meat, dairy products and eggs, and daily contributions of wine, generally consumed with meals, characterize it. In fact, the Mediterranean Diet is much more than a way of eating, it is a healthy lifestyle.

From our Heredad and always under our claim of Respect for the roots, we follow this lifestyle focusing on the care of our vineyards to obtain the best wine, since it is part of this food pattern and is one of its key pieces. Wine consumed in moderation is healthy and is a vital part of the Mediterranean identity; it acts by itself as a protector against coronary heart disease.

Calories from a bottle and a glass of red wine

How many calories does a bottle of red wine contain? A bottle of red wine usually contains around 750 ml and on average, it can have about 560 kcal. And how many calories does a glass of red wine have then? Taking into account the previous data, a 100 ml glass of red wine would be around 75 kcal.

How are calories calculated

A glass of wine with an alcohol content of 13.5% and 100 ml by volume contains 10.8 grams of alcohol. Knowing that each gram of alcohol provides an energy of 7 Kcal: 10.8 gr X 7 kcal / gr = 75.6 kcal. Therefore, a glass of wine would give us an energy contribution of 75.6 kcal in this specific case.

It should be noted that the lower the residual sugar content in a wine, that is, the drier a wine is, the “lighter” it will be. In this sense, we recommend some dry red wines from our winery, such as Segura Viudas Garnatxa or Segura Viudas Mas d’Aranyó. On the contrary, sweet and doomed wines will present a higher caloric intake as they contain a greater amount of sugar. For this reason, the number of calories provided will vary depending on the type of wine, the variety of grapes with which it is made, the time of maturation, etc.
