Discover what is a Tempranillo wine of the Segura Viudas wine variety.

Tempranillo wines are those made with grapes of the Tempranillo variety. The wines are ruby red in colour, with aromas of berries, plum, tobacco, vanilla, leather and grass. The Tempranillo grape produces a must that is balanced in terms of sugar, colour and acidity, although the latter is sometimes scarce. It has a frank palate, interesting in young wine and velvety when it ages.

Characteristics of the Tempranillo grape

It is not a variety rich in tannins, so the wines are fine, pleasant and silky on the palate. In addition, they have an intense red color with violet hues in their youth and aromas of ripe red fruit, wild fruits, vanilla, tobacco, chocolate and herbaceous and floral touches.

According to a recent study, it comes from two different grape varieties that were crossed, giving rise to the famous Tempranillo. Its predecessors were Benedicto and Albillo Mayor or Turruntés, as they call it in La Rioja.

This spontaneous hybridization took place in the vicinity of the Ebro Valley and has been evolving since then until it constitutes the species that we can enjoy today. In Spain, and in other places such as France, Portugal, the United States and Argentina.

An example of this type of wine (along with the Garnatxa variety) is our Segura Viudas Más d’Aranyó.
