HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE CAVA IS IN GOOD CONDITION?
Furthermore, this rule applies to all types of cava. The Reserva or Gran Reserva distinction refers to the time that the cava has been aging in the bottle and does not imply that we can extend its aging at home.
We are going to focus on aspects related to cava, to see if it is or not in a good condition:
- The cork: An indicator that the bottle has been kept in good condition is that when it is opened, the cork, after a few minutes, opens a little at the base.
- Color: The color of the cava will indicate the degree of evolution of the product. Thus, young cavas should have a more straw-colored color than cavas with more aging, which will have a slightly more intense color.
- The smell: It is important that the cava smells good. Although sometimes the carbonic distorts the aromas a bit, we will be able to perfectly recognize the bad smells.
- Taste: When we say that a cava is too acidic, it is because of the carbonic gas, which sometimes enhances an unpleasant acidity in the wine. A cava has to have a good flavor and it is easy to recognize it.
To know if our bottle is in good condition we have to see that it has the carbon dioxide in good condition (alive, which constantly produces bubbles), we can almost assure that it is in good condition for consumption. Once we check that our Segura Viudas cava is in optimal condition, we can go on to enjoy a delicious glass, cheers!
