February 22, 2018

The winery Segura Viudas in Torrelavit (Penedes) received the official certification from the Catalan Council of Organic Agricultural Production, that endorse their ecological practices in the vineyards and the cellar itself. This certificate, issued by the National Accreditation Entity in Spain (ENAC, the Spanish acronym of “Entidad Nacional de Acreditación”), is a guarantee that organic products of the winery are produced following organic farming standards, and are controlled throughout the production, processing, packaging and marketing.

Organic plant products, like grapes, are grown using techniques that respect people and environment. In addition, chemical synthesis pesticides (such as fungicides, insecticides or herbicides) are not used, but natural organic and mineral fertilizers, are. Nitrogen is used for fertilization, to be able to produce natural agricultural products; and its plant health is based on preventive methods that are limited to natural phytosanitary products included in the regulation.

Segura Viudas is now focused on launching their first certificated organic wines and cavas, in line with its policy of preservation of the natural environment where the winery is located.
